CHICAG0 GEARHEADS

Chicago Gearheads History

"Boys And Their Toys"

The club was founded in 1993 by Nick and Harry. Each had a vision for a car club that acknowledged all makes and types of vehicles. Both were disgruntled members of marquee car clubs run by leadership with their own agenda and not in the interest of the membership. The new club would accept members with any type car or truck and those waiting to purchase a vehicle. Dues would be "given back" to the members by sponsoring club events, BBQ's and monthly meetings paid for with dues money. Members would be allowed to vote not only for club officers but any issues that affected the direction of the club. Events planning were accomplished by volunteers with ideas for these events and gatherings coming from membership input. Club sponsored shows, meetings, drag races and rallies are now included in the Upcoming Events Directory.

From the very first meeting, this club was special. The energy and excitement of the founding fathers is still present with a new following of young members. Monthly newsletters, bi-yearly elections of officers and member input remain the foundation of the club.

The club is patterned after Nick and Harry's youth year's in the early 60's, when cars were life. Everyone chipped in to help friends pull engines, change transmissions, go racing - whatever; no matter what kind of car you had. Show cars, plain cars, fast cars, slow cars - it didn't matter. The interest in the cars was the common bond.

The goal of the CGH's is the same and continues to this day, nearly 12 years later. The club name itself was picked by a vote of the members, even the club logo, a blown 41 Willy's against a Chicago Skyline was designed by a Gearhead member and is the property of the club. It represents a lot of things - the area we're from, the interest in drag racing and the Pro Street look that says "we street drive our cars" too. Club members cars include NHRA Pro Stocker to Restored All Stock 50's cars, trucks and muscle cars in between. With 250 members we have a little of everything and something for everyone. The first meeting was 25 guys - 12 years later we're 250! Nick and Harry feel like proud parents.

To all our Members - We Thank You!

Nick & Harry
